SSC-Khaatumo is Not Disputed Territory, Declares PM Barre

Somalia’s Prime Minister, Hamza Abdi Barre, made a significant statement during a reception event in Las Anod, declaring that SSC-Khaatumo is an administration under the Federal Government of Somalia, not a disputed territory.

This declaration carries political and constitutional weight, as it reaffirms Mogadishu’s recognition of SSC-Khaatumo’s governance structure within Somalia’s federal framework.

By making this statement publicly in Las Anod, a key city in the region, the PM is reinforcing Somalia’s territorial integrity, especially amid past tensions between Somaliland and local forces in SSC-Khaatumo legitimizing its leadership under the federal system too.

Barre’s message also sends a message to both domestic and international actors that the status of SSC-Khaatumo is not up for dispute under Somalia’s current governance structure.
