Strong winds have been reported in Somalia’s Jubaland State.
Sources in Kismayo indicate that strong winds have been reported in several parts of the city.
Specifically, residents of Kismayo’s Midnimo neighborhood appear to have been the hardest hit.
The neighborhood is home to thousands of refugees returning from Dadaab refugee camps in the northern part of Kenya.
Officials from the local administration said that the strong winds and storms had destroyed close to 60 houses.
Hundreds of residents have also been displaced from their homes.
Local officials have appealed for humanitarian assistance from nongovernmental organizations and businesses.
