A suspected arrested for the rape and murder of a 19-year old girl in Mogadishu last week admitted to the police that he knew the victim.
Mohamed Ibrahim Osman, the main suspect arrested in Adado in Central Somalia on Wednesday, told the police that he had invited the victim to his apartment.
His apartment is in a six-storey building in Waberi district from which Hamdi Mohamed Farah was thrown out after being gang-raped.
Osman told police that he was in the same room with Farah on the fateful day.
According to his version, they went to his apartment after failing to get a hotel room for Farah after spending the day at his shop at the nearby market.
Osman then alleges that Hamdi left him alone in his room and went out. An hour later, he heard reports that someone had fallen from the building.
When he learnt what had befallen Hamdi, he tried to follow her to the hospital but was warned not to since police would treat him as a suspect in her murder.
