Suspected Al-Shabaab Extremists Destroy Mandera’s Communication Masts

Suspected Al-Shabaab extremists destroyed a communications mast in Kenya’s Mandera County on Thursday, November 5.

Onesmus Kyatha, Mandera County Commissioner, confirmed the news to the media.

He said that the extremists blew the communications mast using explosives.

Kyatha indicated that the incident took place at 2.30am when residents were asleep.

Nevertheless, the County Commissioner expressed delight at the fact that no injuries or casualties were reported.

Al-Shabaab carried out the attack on a facility that guards from National Police Reservists protect.

A local resident said that the first couple of attacks took place at 2.45am before the next one followed at around 4am.

Furthermore, the resident confirmed that the extremists had a field day.

They stayed at the scene of the crime for several hours to ensure that the security guards had no backup or outside help.
