A swarm of locusts has invaded Somaliland’s capital of Hargeisa.
The swarm was witnessed throughout today.
No part of the city was spared from the invasion, which inconvenienced local residents greatly.
According to the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the invasion is a massive threat to food security in the region.
The invasion has been recorded in the Horn of Africa region and parts of the Middle East.
Desert locusts first invaded the region in late 2019. Early this year they also spread to various countries including Kenya, Somalia, Somaliland, Ethiopia, and Djibouti.
