Somaliland has signed an agreement with the government of Taiwan to improve the quality of higher education in the East African country.
Ahmed Mohamed Diriye, Somaliland’s Minister of Education, attended the ceremony that took place in Hargeisa on Tuesday.
He held a meeting with Taiwan’s recently appointed Representative in Somaliland, Lou Chen-hwa to normalize partnership between the two nations in the education sector.
The agreement comes barely two weeks after the two nations formalized diplomatic relations despite strong opposition from Somalia and China.
Through the agreement, Diriye said his government hopes to revolutionize education in the Horn of Africa country.
Diriye and Chen-hwa said the two nations are now expected to embrace exchange programs and partnerships in the education sector to help them learn from their respective cultures.
