Talks have kicked off in Somalia’s capital of Mogadishu to change the African Union (AU) mission in the East African nation.
Officials from the African Union Commission (AUC) met their colleagues from the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) on February 5.
Representatives of Somalia’s international partners attended the talks too.
The purpose of the talks is to discuss the new AU mandate in Somalia.
Additionally, those participating in the talks are to discuss the size, structure, and composition of the new AU mission.
Participants are also likely to speak about the Concept of Operations (CONOPs).
According to sources, the new mission would be known as the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS).
For years, it’s title has been African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).
AMISOM’s mandate expires on March 31, 2022.
