A Marshall Islands-flagged tanker, the Invictus, suffered an engine room fire and subsequent power loss while transiting the Indian Ocean off the coast of Somalia on Tuesday, April 22. The vessel was en route to Fujairah, UAE, after departing Beira, Mozambique.
The blaze broke out in the evening (local time) while the tanker was approximately 508 nautical miles east of Mogadishu. Crew efforts brought the fire under control, and it was fully extinguished by noon on Wednesday, April 23.
Multiple European Union naval assets in the region are monitoring the situation. No further incidents have been reported.
