Teen and His Uncle Accused in Mogadishu Court of Fixing Al-Shabaab Bomb Cars

Mogadishu – A Somali teenager and his uncle were among six suspects who appeared before Mogadishu’s military court on Tuesday, accused of repairing and preparing explosive-laden vehicles for the terrorist group Al-Shabaab.

The hearing turned confrontational when the accused clashed verbally with the presiding military judge, challenging the legitimacy of the charges and the evidence presented.

Security had to intervene briefly to restore order in the courtroom.

According to military prosecutors, the group is believed to have operated in Mogadishu and surrounding regions, allegedly modifying civilian vehicles into car bombs used in several deadly attacks.

The suspects reportedly have links to known Al-Shabaab operatives and were arrested during a coordinated security operation last month.

The military court, infamous for its swift and harsh rulings, including death sentences, is expected to issue a verdict in the coming weeks.

Human rights observers have raised concerns about the fairness of proceedings, particularly when minors are involved.

The trial continues amid heightened security in the capital, following recent attacks that have killed dozens and injured many more.
