Tensions in the Hiiraan region escalated as local clan militias, known as “Ma’awisley,” blocked Hirshabelle regional state leader Ali Gudlawe from visiting Mahas.
President Gudlawe was to visit Mahas on Saturday.

President Gudlawe has focused more on the areas liberated from Al-Shabaab’s grip during his visits.
The conflict erupted on Friday after reports surfaced about Gudlawe’s planned visit to Mahas.
