Tension has gripped Garowe after opposition supporters armed themselves.
Heavily armed pro-opposition fighters patrolled the streets of Garowe over the weekend.
They gathered outside Addun Hotel in Puntland’s administrative capital.
However, they later retreated to their bases after intervention by traditional elders.
They accuse Puntland’s President Said Abdullahi Deni of deploying additional forces in Garowe.
In their view, Deni did so to stifle any opposition to his intention of extending his term in office.
