Thousands Displaced in Ethiopia’s Somali Regional State

Thousands of people have been displaced in Ethiopia’s Somali Regional State.

A statement from the government of the Somali Regional State said that renewed clashes in the region have displaced thousands of residents.

Specifically, the statement indicated that those displaced are from the area around Afar.

Lately, social media has been awash with stories of a fresh round of militarized clashes in the regional state.

Until August 18, the government was yet to comment on the matter.

Its Thursday statement shows that the displaced have found shelter in Sitti Zone and Erer Woreda.

Authorities are yet to turn up with humanitarian assistance to the displaced persons.

That is primarily because of intense rains that have made it impossible to travel or transport anything by road.
