Three Regional States Name Members to Somalia’s Elections Technical Committee

Three of Somalia’s semiautonomous regions of Puntland, Jubbaland, and HirShabelle have named their members to the Elections Technical Committee.

A meeting between Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and Federal Member States (FMS) in Dhusamareb agreed to form the elections technical committee.

The technical committee would be responsible for drafting rules and modalities for the upcoming elections in the country.

Their deliberations would then be forwarded the second round of the talks between FGS and FMS in Galmudug’s administrative capital next month.

Each of the three regional states named two members.

Southwest and Galmudug states are yet to name their members. The federal government has not named its members to the committee too.

Puntland’s representatives in the committee are Abdirahman Dhaban’ad, the Minister of Interior, and Abdiwali Ali Abdulle, the Deputy Director General in the Office of the President.

Jubbaland will be represented by Hersi Jama, a state minister, and Hamze Abdi Barre, the Chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

HirShabelle has appointed Mohamed Adle, the Minister of Interior, and Abdu Farah to represent its interests in the committee.
