Top Somali Cleric to Lead Friday’s Prayer at Turkey’s Renowned Mosque

A top Somali cleric has been appointed to lead Friday’s prayer at one of Turkey’s historic mosques.

Reports from Istanbul indicate that the cleric, Sheikh Abdirashid Sheikh Ali Sufi, would take charge of prayers on October 30 at the world-renowned Hagia Sophia Mosque.

The Somali cleric is also a world-respected Quranic Qari.

On October 29, he was appointed to lead Thursday’s Fajr prayers at the same mosque.

Appointment to lead prayers at the mosque is one of the highest honors accorded to any Muslim cleric.
