Top officials in the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) have been accused of occupying an orphans’ house in Mogadishu.
The move has come as a huge setback to the administration of President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo, which has been hard on corrupt practices.
The orphans whose house is illegally occupied named one the officials as Khadija Mohamed Diriye, the newly appointed Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management.
Mahad Abdala Awad, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, has also been mentioned in the matter.
The family said that the house belongs to General Mohamed Abshir Muse, a former Commander-in-Chief of the Somali Police Force.
General Muse served as the first chief of police. He passed away on October 25, 2017 in the United States.
One of his sons, Osman Mohamed, said that the Diriye rented the house in 2013 and only paid the monthly fee of $800 for the first year.
The 62-year old Diriye then handed the building over to her husband, the Deputy Speaker.
According to the orphans, the two government officials have made it impossible for them to access their house.
Diriye and Awad are yet to comment on the matter.
Meanwhile, Osman has appealed to Farmaajo and Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble to intervene in the issue and ensure that they get their house back.
