Members of the Transitional Puntland Electoral Commission (TPEC) inspected the technology and equipment that is to be used in the upcoming voter registration exercise.
TPEC’s commissioners carried out the inspection on February 14.
Puntland is primed to use the IRIS and Facial Recognition technology to capture the biometric details of all voters eligible for the upcoming elections.
The semiautonomous region is gearing up for local government elections soon.
TPEC is to supervise these early local government elections in various districts including Ufeyn, Eyl, and Qardo.
The news is highly welcome in a region that seems intent on setting the pace for the rest of the country on how to prepare for credible democratic elections.
