The Transitional Puntland Electoral Commission (TPEC) has elected a new chairperson.
Abdirisak Ahmed becomes the new Chairperson of TPEC with immediate effect after winning the elections held on January 2, 2022.
He takes over from Guled Salah, who had just tendered his resignation after leading the organization for the last two years.
During Salah’s tenure, TPEC made history by holding one-person-one-vote polls last year.
In October 2021, TPEC facilitated the universal suffrage polls, which were the first in Somalia, in three different municipalities; that is, Eyl, Ufeyn, and Qardho.
