Washington D.C. — U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a forceful proclamation suspending the entry of Somali nationals into the United States, citing serious national security concerns.
In the statement released by the White House, Trump condemned Somalia’s lack of a functional central authority, noting its “grossly inadequate screening procedures” and persistent terrorist threats.
He said the country’s “minimal control” over its own territory and refusal to accept deported nationals make it a high-risk entry point for potential security threats.
“As a result, the U.S. boldly and definitively suspends the entry of Somali nationals as both immigrants and nonimmigrants,” the proclamation reads.
The move marks one of the most severe travel restrictions placed on Somalia by a U.S. administration and is expected to spark widespread diplomatic and humanitarian concerns.
