President Donald Trump has ordered a majority of the United States troops to pull out of Somalia by early 2021.
The outgoing US President has often championed the need for withdrawing US troops from some of the world’s hotspots.
In days leading to the recent US presidential elections, he again reiterated his belief in pulling US troops from Somalia.
On Friday, December 4, President Trump issued a fresh set of instructions to the Department of Defense and US Africa Command (AFRICOM) on the issue.
He asked them to make sure that the majority of the 700 US troops in the East African nation are pulled out by early next year.
The US troops have played a critical role in ensuring that the fight against Al-Shabaab and other extremist groups remains on course for success.
