Trump Orders US Troops to Leave Somalia

Reports from the White House indicate that President Donald Trump has urged his security advisors to find ways of withdrawing United States troops from Somalia.

Accordingly, the reports back up President Trump’s recent campaign pledges to bring US soldiers back home.

US troops are in Somalia – and the Horn of Africa region – to help in the war against terrorism.

Al-Shabaab has been a huge source of insecurity and chaos over the years by conducting deadly raids in the region.

Consequently, the Pentagon has started to draft plans on troops’ pullout from Somalia for Trump to consider.

Some of the senior officials in Trump’s administration taking part in drafting the plans include Robert O’Brien, the National Security Advisor.

Others are Mark Esper, the Defense Secretary, and Mark Milley, the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Currently, the US boasts of around 700 troops in Somalia. Most of its troops are in the region to help train soldiers for the Somali National Army (SNA).
