President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia and a top official of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) held talks in the United States.
President Mohamud met with Dr. Workneh Gebeyeh in New York on the margins of the ongoing 77th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
Their meeting and the subsequent discussions took place on Friday, September 23.
Discussions that the two leaders held mostly centered around economic, security, and political topics.
They discussed the ongoing drought in Somalia and the subsequent humanitarian crisis it created.
The fight against Al-Shabaab and all forms of terrorism in Somalia featured strongly in the talks.
President Mohamud expressed gratitude to IGAD for continuously standing beside Somalia as the East African nation embarks on state-building activities.
