Turkey has canceled a planned visit by a Somaliland minister in a show of solidarity with Somalia.
Dr. Essa Kayd, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, was to visit Turkey in the coming days officially.
However, that will not happen after reports from Turkey showed that the country canceled the visit.
According to sources, the cancelation is a show of solidarity with Somalia, which is unhappy with a deal that Somaliland and Ethiopia signed on January 1, 2024.
The deal allows Ethiopia to recognize Somaliland as an independent nation.
Somaliland is then to provide Ethiopia with direct access and control of more than 20kms of its coastline.
