On Friday, a military cargo plane left Ankarra to deliver medical supplies from Turkey to Somalia. The medical supplies are to help the Horn of Africa nation in its fight against the ravaging COVID-19.
The plane is expected to land at Mogadishu’s Aden Adde International Airport soon.
Since the pandemic broke out, Turkey has been extending humanitarian assistance to countries that need it. Some of the countries that have received medical assistance from Ankarra include Kosovo, North Macedonia, Montenegro, and Serbia.
Others are Spain, Italy, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Libya among others.
COVID-19, which originated in Wuhan, China has spread into more than 180 countries worldwide. More than 2 million cases have been confirmed around the world too with over 150,000 deaths reported.
Somalia has confirmed over 80 COVID-19 cases since late February. The East African nation has also reported five Coronavirus deaths, which have forced the government to institute several measures designed to curb its spread.
