The government of Turkey has donated several military vehicles to the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) to help with security.

Mehmet Yilmaz, the Turkish Ambassador to Somalia, handed over the vehicles to Mohamed Ali, the East African nation’s Minister of Defense on August 15.

Brigadier General Odawa Yusuf Rageh, as the Chief of the Somali Defense Forces (SDF), also attended the handing over ceremony.

The vehicles included BMC Kirpis and armored personnel carriers (APCs).

Turkey also handed over tanker trucks to Somalia.

While receiving the donation, Brig. Gen. Rageh said, “We are grateful to the Turkish government for the donation and their input in reviving our armed forces.”

Brig. Gen. Rageh confirmed that Gorgor Commandos would take charge of the mine-resistant APCs.

On his part, Ambassador Yilmaz assured the people and government of Somalia of Turkey’s continued support in different areas.
