Turkey Vows to Continue Leading Mediation Talks between Somalia and Ethiopia

Turkey has reaffirmed its commitment to mediating between Ethiopia and Somalia regarding the ongoing tension over the controversial agreement Addis Ababa signed with Somaliland, the self-declared independent region.

This effort, referred to as the “Ankara Process,” aims to broker a balanced and mutually beneficial solution for all parties involved.

On Thursday, Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held discussions with Ethiopia’s Foreign Minister Taye Atske Selassie and Somalia’s Foreign Minister Ahmed Moallim Fiqi at the Turkish House in New York.

The meeting occurred on the sidelines of the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA79).

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized Turkey’s determination to continue mediating, stressing the importance of finding a peaceful and viable resolution to ease the current tensions.

Turkey has a long-standing relationship with both Somalia and Ethiopia and seeks to play a constructive role in maintaining regional stability and diplomatic engagement.

The Ankara Process underscores Turkey’s broader influence in the Horn of Africa.
