Turkey’s Investments in Somalia Causing Economic Impact

James Swan, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General to Somalia, has commended the economic impact of Turkey’s investments in the East African nation.

Despite decades of conflicts and wars, famine, and insecurity, Somalia is currently enjoying economic boon.

One of the reasons behind this growing attractiveness of the country is the investments it continues to receive from Turkey.

Special Envoy Swan said, “Turkish response to some of Somalia’s priority needs has created huge economic benefits.”

Turkish has invested in Somalia’s roads, seaport, airport, and security.

Furthermore, Turkey has also donated funds, equipment, and personnel to boost healthcare in the Horn of Africa nation.

Turkey took its multi-tiered relations with Somalia to the next level from 2011, when the East African country endured one of its most catastrophic famines.

According to Special Envoy Swan, Turkey has grown its investments in Somalia to over $1 billion.
