Turkey’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned the latest terror attacks against a popular hotel in Mogadishu.
The ministry released a press statement indicating its “sadness and sorrow” at the events of August 16 that shocked the entire region.
On Sunday, militants detonated a car bomb just outside the popular Elite Hotel before following that up with a siege inside the establishment.
Reports indicate that up to 16 people might have been killed in that incident.
Furthermore, close to 30 people were injured and rushed to various hospitals in Mogadishu for medical attention.
Later, Somali National Army (SNA) soldiers engaged the extremists in a gunfight that lasted until the wee hours of Monday morning.
Turkey, which is one of Somalia’s most important international partners, commiserated with its East Africa ally.
In its statement, Turkey said it condemned the ghastly attack “strongly.” It also extended condolences and messages of goodwill to the brotherly people of Somalia.
