Türkiye Eyes Energy and Tech Investments in Somalia

Mogadishu — Türkiye is preparing to bolster its investments in Somalia’s energy and technology sectors, Ambassador Alper Aktaş announced on Monday during the launch of Somalia’s Centennial Vision 2060 in Mogadishu.

Speaking at the event, Amb. Aktaş revealed that several Turkish companies are keen to explore Somalia’s promising hydrocarbon sector.

This comes as Ankara looks to strengthen its economic and strategic partnership with Mogadishu after years of close cooperation across security, education, and humanitarian initiatives.

The Ambassador also highlighted Türkiye’s ambitions in the technology space, noting that the nation’s forthcoming satellite launch would support Somalia in becoming a regional technology hub.

“Our growing capabilities in space will open new doors for Somalia’s modernization and innovation,” Amb. Aktaş said.

He further expressed support for President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s reform agenda, including the push toward direct elections, saying democratic progress would attract long-term investors.

The Turkish envoy’s remarks come at a crucial time for Somalia as it outlines its future economic and political goals under the long-term development plan.
