Two Regional Leaders Expected in Baidoa Today before Traveling to Mogadishu

Two leaders of the Federal Member States (FMS) are expected to travel to Baidoa today for talks with their counterpart before traveling to Mogadishu.

Late last week, reports from Mogadishu indicated that President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo of the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) agreed to meet with all FMS leaders in Mogadishu.

Initially, he was only scheduled to meet with President Said Abdullahi Deni of Puntland and President Ahmed Islam Madobe of Jubbaland.

Deni and Madobe had skipped the recently concluded Dhusamareb III talks where an agreement on the preferred electoral model was signed.

However, Deni and Madobe urged Farmaajo to invite the other FMS leaders to Mogadishu to make the talks more inclusive.

Madobe agreed to their demands.

President Mohamed Abdi Waare of HirShabelle and President Ahmed Abdi Kariye Qoorqoor of Galmudug will meet President Abdiaziz Hassan Lafta-Gareen of Southwest state in Baidoa.

Reports from Baidoa indicate that the three FMS leaders would then leave for Mogadishu on Wednesday.
