Two senior Al-Shabaab fighters were killed during a military operation organized jointly by Somali National Army (SNA) and other international forces.
Abdulmalik Ma’alin, Commander of the 16th Unit of the SNA, confirmed the news though he never released the identities of the two militants.
Ma’alin confirmed that SNA, African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), and US African Command (AFRICOM) organized a successful military raid on Thursday last week.
During the operation, which was carried out in the Middle Jubba town of Jilib, the troops attacked a known Al-Shabaab base in the region.
Members of the Al-Qaeda linked group have set up a base in Middle Jubba, which has been active in the area for several years.
According to military sources, Jilib town is the local headquarters of the militia group.
