Two Turkish Nationals Arrested over Recent Seizure of Illegal Drones in Somalia

Two Turkish citizens were arrested in Somalia over the recent capture of illegally imported drones.

Reports indicate that the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) interrogated two Turkish nationals on November 4.

This follows news that authorities had captured a shipment of drones at the Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu.

Nevertheless, the two were then set free after the Turkish Embassy in Mogadishu intervened.

Zakariye Haji Mohamud, a lawmaker, had said that the drones were his.

According to Mohamud, he imported the drones purely for agricultural use.

Zakariye confirmed that he had imported the drones from Turkey after buying them from Hufan.

The lawmaker said that Hufan is a Turkish firm that specializes in all forms of agriculture-related activities that include irrigation and pest control.
