UCID Leader Banned from Vying for the Upcoming Presidential Elections in Somalia

The Chairman of UCID Party, Faisal Ali Warabe, has been barred from vying for the Presidential Elections in Somalia scheduled for the end of the year.

The House of Representatives announced that Warabe would not be allowed to forward his name as one of the candidates in the upcoming elections.

Bashe Mohamed Farah, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, which is Somalia’s Lower House, said a new law recently passed by parliament disqualifies Warabe from the race.

Farah and Warabe have not been seeing eye-to-eye for quite some time now.

The genesis of the bad blood between them is the reduced budget for political parties, a move that has left Warabe fuming.

Warabe has vied for the presidency thrice. All his past attempts at the presidency have ended in humiliation after he received the least number of votes compared to his rivals.
