UK Releases $10 Million to Support Drought Efforts in Somalia

The United Kingdom has released $10 million to support drought efforts in Somalia.

According to the UK government, the funds are geared towards supporting close to 500,000 Somalis facing drought within the country.

MP Vicky Ford, the Minister for Africa in the UK government, announced the disbursement of the funds on Monday.

The minister made the announcement while visiting Kenya.

She is currently on a three-country visit in East Africa.

The funds would offer vital assistance to the needy. First, it would allow them to buy water and urgent food supplies in cash.

Several sources believe that more than 90 percent of Somalia faces severe drought.

Five million Somalis are hungry and at risk of starvation while 3.5 million of them need urgent humanitarian assistance.
