United Nations agencies in Somalia are to start distributing food aid to refugees and asylum seekers in the country.
This was announced on August 20 when two UN agencies launched the exercise.
UNHCR and World Food Programme (WFP) are to distribute over 1,500 metric tons of food aid to refugees and asylum seekers around the Horn of Africa nation.
The two agencies announced that the exercise, which they launched on Thursday, is already running in Mogadishu, Bosaso, and Galkayo.
Moreover, they promised to launch it in Somaliland on Sunday August 23 too.
In a joint press release, the two agencies said that around 67 percent of the asylum seekers and refugees they intend to reach out to live in Somaliland.
Consequently, they expect to spend more time in Somaliland.
UNHCR indicated that most of the refugees and asylum seekers are from Yemeni and Ethiopia, which they fled because of constant conflicts and unending persecution.
Most of them have settled in Mogadishu, Hargeisa, Bosaso, Galkayo, and Berbera.
