James Swan, the Senior Envoy of the United Nations in Somalia, has commended the role that the country’s women have made towards promoting stability in the nation.
He applauded their contribution towards promoting peace and stability in the Horn of Africa country. The envoy said the women played no small part in the progress the country has made.
Swan encouraged more efforts by Somali women to influence all spheres of the society in a country that has known nothing but war and conflicts for several decades.
The envoy issued a statement recognizing the role women have played in the war-torn nation. He said, “Somali women have contributed positively to making Somali peaceful and stable.”
He issued this statement during the celebration of the International Women’s Day in the country’s capital.
Swan lauded the women for demonstrating “tremendous courage, dedication, and strength” in the midst of seemingly insurmountable challenges.
He listed the challenges as political instability, natural disasters, lack of security, and protracted lethal conflicts.
