Anita Kiki Ghebo, the United Nations Special Deputy Representative to Somalia, has called for more commitment towards Somalia’s quest for an increased women quota.
On February 17, Ghebo held a meeting with Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble of Somalia.
Representatives of several donor partners also joined her in the Thursday meeting.
Some of the representatives were from Goodwill Ambassadors for Somalia shared their views with Ghebo and Prime Minister Roble.
Ghebo reiterated the importance of ensuring that Somalia achieves the women’s 30 percent increased quota in the ongoing elections.
Thus far, reports show that the quota stands at 22 percent of the lawmakers elected in the ongoing House of the People (Lower House) elections.
With a few seats up for elections before the February 25 deadline, Somalia might not achieve the 30 percent quota for women representation in parliament.
