UN Dismayed at Displacement of Over 100,000 people in Latest Somalia Clashes

The United Nations is both dismayed and alarmed at the news that the latest clashes in Somalia have displaced over 100,000 people.

On October 27, the UN warned that central Somalia could experience worrying humanitarian situations owing to the clashes.

Federal government forces clashed with Ahlu Sunna militia in a deadly conflict that left more than 100 people dead.

The incident took place in Guri-El town, Galmudug.

James Swan, the UN Special Envoy to Somalia, expressed the global body’s “concern and alarm” at the ongoing fighting in Guri-El.

According to Swan, the conflict displaced more than 20,000 families.

The families account for over 100,000 people.

Swan also spoke of the disappointment the UN feels towards the continued destruction of hospitals and facilities belonging to civil societies in the region.
