UN Envoy, Ethiopian Ambassador Discuss Somalia Peace and Regional Stability

Mogadishu, Somalia – The United Nations Special Representative for Somalia, James Swan, has met with Ethiopia’s newly appointed Ambassador to Somalia, Suleiman Dedefo, to discuss continued international support for Somalia’s peace, security, and state-building efforts.

According to a UN statement, the talks also covered broader regional developments, reflecting shared concerns over stability in the Horn of Africa. The meeting underscored the role of coordinated international engagement in bolstering Somalia’s governance, development, and security sector reforms.

Amb. Dedefo, who recently took up his post in Mogadishu, emphasized Ethiopia’s readiness to work closely with both Somalia and the UN to address mutual challenges. Swan reaffirmed the UN’s commitment to supporting Somalia’s ongoing political processes, including constitutional review, institution building, and preparations for upcoming elections.

The discussions come at a time of heightened regional tensions and ongoing counter-terrorism operations against Al-Shabaab, with the international community urging unity among Horn of Africa nations to safeguard security and development gains.
