UN Envoy Urges Solutions to the Suspended Elections Results in HirShabelle and Southwest

James Swan, the most senior United Nations envoy in Somalia, has called for solutions for the suspended elections in HirShabelle and Southwest.

Ambassador Swan spoke during his meeting with members of the Federal Elections Implementation Team (FEIT) on April 7.

FEIT recently disapproved elections results in four seats.

Three of the seats were from Southwest while the remaining one was from HirShabelle.

The cancelation has angered the leadership of the Southwest state under President Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed Laftagareen.

He has urged lawmakers from Southwest not to receive their certificates of registration from FEIT.

There are fears that without the results from the four seats, lawmakers would be unable to take their oaths of office on April 14, as initially scheduled.
