UN Launches $1.6B Appeal for Humanitarian Aid in Somalia

The United Nations has launched a $1.6 billion appeal for humanitarian assistance in Somalia.

Through the 2024 Humanitarian Needs Action Plan the UN hopes to raise enough funds to ensure that over 5 million people in Somalia receive life-saving support this year.

The UN added that the funds are urgent.

While announcing the launch on January 31, the UN says that Somalia grapples with different challenges that continue to push the country to its limit.

Some of these include outbreak of diseases, widespread poverty, conflicts, and climate shocks.
