The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is set to meet on Thursday, August 12 to discuss the ongoing developments in Somalia.
During the session, UNSC members are likely to look at the country’s election process.
Currently, the country is carrying out elections for Upper House seats at the regional state level. Four regional states have already held these elections; that is, Jubaland, Southwest, Galmudug, and Puntland.
James Swan, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General in Somalia will brief the UNSC members on the East African nation.
Francisco Madeira, the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) Chief of Mission, will help Swan in providing members with the updates they need on Somalia.
A statement from the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) says, “The UNSC is meeting on Thursday to discuss the ongoing situation in Somalia.”
