The United Nations, through its UN Women in Somalia wing, has commended Sweden for supporting women’s empowerment in the East African nation.
Syed Sadiq, the UN Women Representative in Somalia, expressed gratitude to Per Lindgarde, Swedish Ambassador to Somalia, on January 13.
Sadiq and Ambassador Lindgarde held a meeting on Thursday.
Sadiq mentioned the support that Sweden had extended to Somalia over the years towards women empowerment and gender equality.
Specifically, Sadiq and Ambassador Lindgarde spoke of the efforts different stakeholders had put in to attain a 30 percent women quota in the ongoing elections in Somalia.
