UN to Help Build HirShabelle Police Force

The United Nations has promised to help the regional state of HirShabelle to build up its police force.

This emerged after a meeting between HirShabelle President Ali Hussein Gudlawe and a team from the UN.

The UN delegation featured Tim Lardner, Adam Abdelmoula, and others.

Lardner is the Director of the UN Office for Project Services (UNOPS) while Abdelmoula is the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the UN to Somalia.

The two held discussions with President Gudlawe on Friday, September 16.

Currently, they run a Joint Police Programme whose purpose is to partner with the HirShabelle administration to build up the regional state’s police force.

Abdelmoula also promised that the UN would continue cooperating with HirShabelle in many areas.

These include development, governance, humanitarian aid, and women’s representation as well as empowerment.
