James Swan, the United Nations Special Envoy to Somalia, has promised to work closely with authorities in the country to enhance security in the upcoming elections.
Somalia is scheduled to hold parliamentary elections towards the end of the year followed by presidential polls in early 2021.
The country has been grappling with security issues for decades.
Lately, Al-Shabaab extremists have increased their attacks against security officers and innocent civilians in the country.
Swan mentioned that the UN would continue supporting Somalia through World Health Organization (WHO), World Food Programme (WFP), and many other organizations.
The UN Special Envoy issued a statement reassuring Somalis of the global institution’s support in the health, security, food, and education sectors.
