Mogadishu, Somalia – The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has held Somalia’s first-ever consultative session with local non-governmental organizations on accessing the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Small Grants Programme.
The landmark event aimed to equip Somali civil society groups with the tools and knowledge necessary to tap into vital environmental funding and advance community-based solutions to climate and ecological challenges.
Participants received practical guidance on proposal development, eligibility criteria, and sustainable project design—marking a key step toward localizing environmental action and empowering grassroots initiatives.
The session reflects a broader UNDP push to decentralize climate financing and support Somalia’s growing network of environmental advocates.
