The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) needs over $9.8 million to tackle child protection needs in Somalia.
UNHCR issued a statement highlighting the massive child protection challenges prevalent in the East African nation.
In its statement, UNHCR said that around 2.3 million boys and girls in Somalia are at great risk of exploitation and violence.
Other challenges facing this group include abuse, death from severe or acute malnutrition, and neglect.
UNHCR needs the funds to implement stand-alone and enhanced mainstreaming efforts to address the challenges threatening Somali children.
In its report, UNHCR mentioned that the funds would allow it to focus on 332,200 children.
The children are in 37 districts around the country.
The ongoing drought in Somalia is increasing the vulnerability of children to protection risks. This problem is more pronounced in girls and children with disabilities.
