The United Nations Population Fund condemned the abduction and rape of two girls aged 3 and 4 years respectively terming the act “retrogressive.”
UNFPA has demanded the immediate prosecution of the people behind this heinous act.
Authorities reported that the two young girls were picked from their Afgoye Town home, before being raped and dumped in a local field.
They were then abandoned there the whole night to bleed themselves to death.
Anders Thomsen, the UNFPA Representative for Somalia, released a statement condemning the incident that took place on March 30, 2020 at Lower Shabelle.
Insecurity has worsened at Lower Shabelle.
Thomsen has asked authorities to ensure that the families of the two young girls get the justice they deserve in court.
His statement said, “We stand with the two girls and their loved ones. We ask that a proper judicial process kicks off to ensure that they all get justice.”
Currently, the two girls are in Mogadishu’s Madina Hospital getting treatment and recuperating.
Doctors have diagnosed them with fistula. Additionally, their mothers have said they are also on treatment for damages inflicted on their private parts.
