United States Extends Somalia’s Temporary Protected Status (TPS)

The United States has extended Somalia’s Temporary Protected Status (TPS).

On Thursday, the US Department of Homeland Security announced the extension.

Consequently, Somali nations would now enjoy the benefits associated with TPS. Furthermore, Homeland Security has re-designated Somalia for TPS applicants.

The benefits are quite significant.

For example, Somalis can now remain in the US and work for a designated period because of the ongoing crises in the East African nation.

The crises that allow them to enjoy this benefit are the humanitarian and conflict situations.

The extension is for a further 18 months. It runs from March 18, 2023, to September 17, 2024.
