UNSC Condemn Recent Al-Shabaab Attack That Killed ATMIS Soldiers

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has condemned a recent Al-Shabaab attack that killed African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) soldiers.

ATMIS soldiers lost their lives in an attack in El-Baraf on May 3.

The soldiers were from the Burundian contingent that serves under ATMIS in the region.

While condemning the attack, UNSC vowed to continue supporting ATMIS and the Somali government in the fight against Al-Shabaab.

UNSC members also underlined the need for holding the organizers, financiers, executioners, and sponsors of the Al-Shabaab militia accountable.

The Security Council issued a statement urging authorities to launch investigations into the incident and bring all those responsible for the attack to justice.

More than 10 Burundian soldiers lost their lives in the attack.
