United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is to meet on February 22 to discuss electoral developments in Somalia.
This would be the second time in a month that the Security Council holds a special sitting on Somalia ‘s inability to hold elections.
The first meeting this month focused on receiving updates from UN agencies and the political leadership about the situation in the East African nation.
The government of the United Kingdom called for the earlier meeting.
In Monday’s session, UNSC is likely to evaluate the events leading up to the deadly violence witnessed on Friday last week in Mogadishu.
The violence occurred when government troops attempted to forcibly disperse a crowd of opposition supporters that were holding an anti-government rally in the capital city.
Secondly, UNSC would also focus on the country’s inability to hold elections.
The collapsed elections talks between Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and Federal Member States (FMS) could also feature in the discussions.
